School of Nutrition and Dietetics Student Receives Studentship from the Canadian Society for the History of Medicine

Nyssa Lee, a 4th year student in the School of Nutrition and Dietetics received a Hannah Studentship from the Canadian Society of the History of Medicine to work with Dr. Catherine Morley on the origins and evolution of diet manuals and other sources informing medical nutrition therapy in Canadian hospitals. Nyssa’s project is to create a database of diets drawn from sources dated from the 1880s to the present day. These include diet manuals, guidelines assembled by the staff dietitians in Dietetics or Food and Nutrition Service Departments, and dietitians’ personal notebooks. This project supports Dr. Morley’s work to advocate for perioperative and other feeding practices that optimize nutritional status of people in hospitals.
