Acadia Grad Receives Morgan Award

The recipient of the 2011 Morgan Award for the Atlantic Region is Valerie MacPherson, a graduate of the Acadia University Dietetic Internship Program. Valerie’s research investigated The Impact of Interprofessional Learning on Students in the Health Care Professions at Yarmouth Regional Hospital.   Valerie embraced the opportunity to conduct practice-based research, with thoughtful guidance from her research advisor, Patti Simpson, MAdEd, PDt.  In her application letter, Valerie wrote, “the most rewarding aspect of this research was being able to undertake a study which will have a real and tangible impact on the education of future dietetic interns. The results of this research study will be used to improve the IPL program at YRH by enriching the experience of those who participated in this program.”

The Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research (CFDR) established the Morgan Awards Program to honour the memory of Susan Morgan, a former CFDR manager and a dietitian who was an ardent supporter of the dietetic profession, of practice-based research, and of mentoring novice researchers. The Program recognizes dietetic students and interns in their graduating year for excellence in dietetic research.
