Acadia ALERT - Campus Closed (Weather)

Today, Monday, February 23, 2026, Acadia University will remain closed, with the exception of residences and Wheelock Dining Hall, due to the forecasted weather. Wheelock Dining Hall may adjust their hours due to the weather and any change in hours will be communicated through Residence Life.

Employees and students are not expected to come to campus and only employees deemed essential are required to report to work. Non-essential employees are not expected to work during the closure. Any events scheduled for today will be postponed or cancelled.

Faculty of Science - Student Award Winners

Student Award Winners

 

There were a number of successes in student awards for Acadia Science students in recent external competitions.

 

NSERC:

 

The Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship Program (CGS) provides financial support, valued at $17,500 for one year, to outstanding eligible students pursuing masters or doctoral studies in Canada. Acadia celebrates the following Science recipients:

           

            Laura Ferguson, Biology                     Lacey Reid, Chemistry           

            Beth Jewiss, Biology                           Robin Westland, Earth & Environmental Science

            Holly Lightfoot, Biology                      Corey Hodder, Mathematics & Statistics

            Emma McIntyre, Biology                    Megan Lickley, Mathematics & Statistics

            Zoe Migicovsky, Biology                     David Parsons, Physics

            Samantha Munroe, Biology                Robyn Stewart, Psychology

            Bruce Fage, Chemistry

 

In addition, Jose Lefebvre, MSc graduate in Biology, has been awarded three years of funding, at $21,000 per year, to pursue doctoral studies in Biology at Dalhousie University.

 

SSHRC:

 

The Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) program, valued at $17,500 for one year, seeks to develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students in the social sciences and humanities who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies. Acadia celebrates the following Science recipients:

NSHRF:

 

The Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (NSHRF) Student Research Award, valued at $16,824 for one year, is intended to reward student and trainee research excellence and provide assistance for students and trainees undertaking their own research project or program, as part of their thesis-based graduate degree. Acadia celebrates the following Science recipients:

 

Jim Ghoshdastidar, Chemistry

Melissa Gendron, Psychology

 

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) have not yet announced student award winners. These will be announced to campus once they are known.
